Joonas Ahtikallio (FI) solo exhibition
Introduction
On Wednesday, September 2nd at 5:00 PM, an exhibition by PAH residency artist Joonas Ahtikallio (FI) will open in the Endla Theatre Barn Gallery. You are warmly welcome!
The exhibition features a series of images created by the artist during his residency in Pärnu. Exploring the layers of the mind and bodily memory through cameraless photography, he creates abstract portraits in the darkroom using live models, paper masks, and plant-based chemical processes. While he directs the framing and structure, he steps back from full control to allow the properties of the plants and chance to shape the final image.
Joonas Ahtikallio is a visual artist based in Jyväskylä, Finland, focusing on photography. His work combines photographic art, sound, and experimental techniques, such as alternative printing methods and processes based on natural materials. Through these, he explores the fragile relationship between humans and nature, as well as the theme of transience. Ahtikallio’s works have been presented in both solo and group exhibitions in Finland and internationally.

The residency program is organized by MTÜ Pure Art Productions and coordinated by Janno Bergmann.
The residency is supported by the City of Pärnu and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.
