STEGREIF. free∃roica
STEGREIF – The Improvising Symphony Orchestra (Berlin)
Music director: Sebastian Caspar
Recomposition and arrangements: Mike Conrad, Alistair Duncan
Staging: David Fernández, Franziska Ritter
Lighting Design: Arnaud Poumarat
Programme:
Beethoven. Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major op. 55
STEGREIF is a symphony orchestra that takes on classical music's masterworks, but what sets these thirty young, international musicians apart is their ability to open up new ways into the world of classical music for both themselves and the audience.
They infuse well-known pieces with elements of folk, jazz, klezmer, blues, and rock, crafting visually and theatrically impactful new interpretations. STEGREIF explores fresh soundscapes and experiments with genre-bending fusions. They do all of this without sheet music, a conductor, or even chairs – this freedom creates space for improvisation and movement, bringing a new sense of freshness, dynamism, and immediate presence to classical music.
