Thu, 26 December 19.00 Vanemuine Concert Hall

Fri, 27 December 19.00 Estonia Concert Hall

Sat, 28 December 17.00 Jõhvi Concert Hall

Puuluup and VHK String Orchestra

Puuluup: Ramo Teder and Marko Veisson (hiiu kannel, loopers)

VHK String Orchestra

Conductor Rasmus Puur

The „hiiu kannel“, also recognized as the Swedish lyre, bowed lyre, or talharpa, is an instrument steeped in history. Originating in the British Isles during the 11th century, it likely made its way to Estonia via Scandinavia, primarily finding a home on the island of Vormsi. Therefore, this concert presents a unique encounter where the instruments of a classically structured string orchestra meet their ancient predecessors. Historical concepts are subverted, with the new becoming old and the old, new.

In this performance, Puuluup is not aiming to integrate into the realm of academic music; instead, their stage presence will pose a challenge to young musicians trained in classical string techniques.
